Microsoft works documents .xlr files

On vacation with my new mac book pro, we were using microsoft works as a supplimental invoice program, So we had a thumb drive with files on it. Cient called and needed some rewording for insurance claims. no problem. insert thumb drive but could not open works files, so to the app store… After down loading the $9.99 program, tried to open .xlr file we get message of file not supported. A microsoft file xlr extension not supported? The only purpose of this program is to open a .xlr file and you cant do that. Please return my money, your program did not do what you stated it would do. Plain and simple.
